How to replace the clutch slave cylinder when combined to the release bearing - shown on Dacia and Renault Duster 4x4

Symptoms of a failing hydraulic clutch release bearing

The hydraulic clutch release bearing releases the clutch disc by pushing on the clutch springs so the disc is no more compressed between the flywheel and the clutch plate; this is indeed whenever you press on the clutch pedal.
Failure can be then either mechanical or hydraulic:
  • Bearing noise when driving and pressing on the clutch pedal 
  • Brake fluid leak underneath the vehicle with visible drops on the exact joint between gearbox and engine
  • If leak is unnoticed, the clutch pedal ends up going to the floor with no resistance and no action

Replacing the hydraulic clutch bearing on the Dacia or Renault Duster or other Renault vehicles:

Separate your gearbox from the engine as shown in our above tutorials and make sure to slide it on the lower frame enough so that you can reach the clutch slave cylinder with your hand.
Take your time to inspect well the clutch and the gearbox shaft to make sure you have no oil leaks from any of the crankshaft seal or gearbox shaft seal.
Unscrew the two bolts that hold the slave cylinder to the gearbox and take it out of the gearbox shaft and off the vehicle.
Remove the protective bellows from the old clutch bearing and fit it to the new one after cleaning it.
Pre-fill the hydraulic clutch bearing by pressing on it then releasing it with its tube inside a brake fluid container.
Fit the black plug on top of its hydraulic tube.
Apply little graphite grease on the inner part of the hydraulic clutch bearing, and install your new slave cylinder inside the gearbox by reversing above steps.
Proceed with the gearbox reassembly to the engine then with the clutch circuit bleeding.
