Preparatory works for water pump removal
The water pump on modern vehicles is quite robust and is not supposed to fail before the Km 200,000. In case of wear, it will generate a noise similar to a spice grinder, much audible when the engine is idling. This denotes the time to replace your water pump.
Always start by draining the coolant circuit, then proceed to the steps described below.

How to access the water pump
Start by lifting the vehicle on the right side, removing the wheel and the inner fender mudguard. Visit our dedicated pages to see how to safely lift the vehicle and dismantle the mudguard.

How to remove the water pump from engine
Block the water pump pulley with a large screwdriver by inserting it in between the pulley and the water pump actuator.
Loosen all bolts holding the pulley to the water pump rotor.
Loosen all bolts holding the pulley to the water pump rotor.
Then simply take it out.
Release the water pump actuator by pulling out with your fingers the meant handle (left), unscrew its holding bolts (middle) and pull it to the top then let it rest somewhere nearby the engine support (right). No need to disconnect its electric cable.
Insert your hand behind the engine support until you reach the cylinder head and you will immediately find the bolt that hods the wire harness leg which you need to unscrew (left) for loosening the harness and being able of moving it away from the pump's top bolt.
Remove all bolts and take out the pump.
Remove all bolts and take out the pump.
You can now replace it with a new one if this was the purpose of your intervention.
If not, rotate the pump's impeller with your hand to make sure the bearing is still good. It should make almost no noise and stop fast due to the braking actin of its seal.
Replace the gasket if you are willing to reinstall the same pump or apply RTV gasket maker on top of it before refitting the pump.
Do not forget to bleed the coolant after refitting the pump and filling the coolant circuit.
In this particular case of a Peugeot engine, the auto maker recommends its own "Glaceol" coolant but you can indeed use any other product of good quality.
