Location of the fuel filter on Citroën C3 and materials needed for its replacement
The location of a car's fuel filter depends on the space available around the fuel tank, not the engine type. For example, the fuel filter on the Citroën C3 equipped with any of the EB2 or EC5 engines is located between the suspension spring and the spare wheel well, as shown here:
To change it, you will need:
- Depending on the case, a large flathead screwdriver or "water pump" pliers.
- A new filter cartridge
- A metal tray
- A rag
- Make sure your car key is not in the vehicle and the driver's door is closed to avoid pressurizing the fuel system.
- Start by disconnecting the outlet tube from the filter first.
- In this case, the fuel tube connector is removed by pressing on the white tabs with water pump pliers while pulling the fuel tube outward.
- You can also purchase a special tool for fuel tubes, see further down this page. In all cases, be careful not to damage the tube connector.
- You may also press on the white tab (s) with your fingers while using a large screwdriver to pull the fuel tube out, but make sure not to force out the tube with the screwdriver, you should be pressing the tabs and letting the tube go off easily.
- Caution! Fuel will leak from the tube, but especially from the filter.
- Make sure you don't get any fuel on your face, then immediately plug the filter using the cap provided on the new cartridge.

If the connector doesn't come out easily, or if you can't push in the white tab on the connector, apply a little WD40 (SO2 penetrating oil) to the connector.
Do the same with the filter inlet connector. |

Now spread the two tabs holding the fuel filter, remove the old filter, and install the new one, ensuring the flow arrow is aligned with the old one. This arrow should point toward the fuel line leading to the engine.
Insert the filter into its holder until you hear a "click" signaling that the tabs have closed securely.

Make sure that:
- The new filter is firmly against the rear "legs" of the filter holder
- That the tabs hold the filter securely
- That the tubes are properly inserted and against the filter body
- That the tubes cannot be removed by hand
