Oil and filter change | How to drain oil and replace the filter
- Use a deep steel baking tray inside a bigger plastic tray. The steel tray will receive the hot oil first.
- Start unscrewing the oil change plug little by little until oil starts to spill into the trays.
- Keep holding the plug with the tool when taking it out to avoid any contact with your hands and let the oil flow.
- You may now open the oil refill cover, not before.
- Inspect it and check for any creamy compound.
- Locate your oil filter. It could be difficult to reach on some engines.
- Prepare the new filter supplied with its new seal and new rings for the plug as well.
- Start first by fitting the new seal in its groove. Put some oil on it, fit the new filter cartridge and tighten gently without squeezing the rubber ring.
- Replace the sump plug seal with a new one as a systematic measure. Do not use the same seal.
- Tighten until you compress the seal and clean well the sump with a dry cloth.
- Wrap the oil hole with a towel or old socks to avoid any oil spills around on your engine cover. Use the adequate oil and oil quantity. Check your vehicle's manual.
- Empty the trays into the same oil bottles to measure how much is still left. A 1l consumption between changes is normal. Read more about low oil level symptoms...
