The below works concern a 2016 Renault Clio 4 equipped with the 0.9 TCe engine but do apply to any car with an housed air filter located to the side of the engine.

When to replace the air filter of a car?

In a normal environment, replace your air filter every 20,000 Km
In a dusty environment, replace your air filter every   10,000 Km

How to replace a air filter of a Renault Clio 4

The air filter of the Clio 4 is located in the air box to the left side of the car.
With your fingers, release the clips of the air filter housing so you can take it out.
It's as simple and requires no tools.
For refitting the new air filter, just place it in its plastic housing and reintroduce the housing in the air box.
Make sure that the holding clips are well attached, you should hear them "click".
That's it !!

Taking out air filter box on the Renault Clio

In case you need to remove the whole air box of the Renault Clio in order to access the mechanical parts underneath, proceed as follows:
  • Unscrew the bolt that holds the air box and loosen the clamp of the inlet air hose that connects to it
  • Take out the air hose of the air box
  • Remove the battery
  • Pull out the airbox from the vehicle by inclining it to the front
