How to fix Android auto connection problems
Android Auto is now built-in Android OS and starts automatically upon connecting your car to your phone via a USB cable. If this is not happening, then:
DO NOT:
Lose your time uninstalling then reinstalling Android Auto
Try to tamper with Android Auto settings
Try to reset your car infotainment system
DO INSTEAD:
Replace the cable with a NEW short USB high speed cable, < 1 meter.
If this doesn't work neither, then you can be sure that the problem is with your phone's USB port, which has aged enough and is worn enough, not to transmit anymore data reliably.
You have one solution left unfortunately: replacing your phone, although you can try cleaning its USB port with alcohol as a desperate and very last tentative.
To note that your phone will still charge from its port, and even send / receive data when connected to your PC, BUT Android Auto won't start if the port is worn.
ALTERNATIVELY, you may use an old phone that lets Android Auto launch, and give it a hotspot wifi from your phone. In this case however, you can only benefit from your old phone's Apps, that are duplicated to your car screen, like Google Maps, Youtube Music, your music player app, etc., but you cannot benefit from a handsfree phone since your phone is not connected to the car, and is only used to provide a hotspot.
You cannot connect one phone through Bluetooth and the other through cable, because Android Auto uses anyhow the Bluetooth connection along with the USB connection.

USB C-type mobile phone ports tend to wear out in a matter of 2 years. They will keep charging your mobile almost indefinitely, and allow file transfer to a PC, but significantly reduce transmission speed which blocks Android Auto:
