Steps to follow for creating the indoor goldfish pond
- In this case, the stainless steel bowl has been placed inside a stone pond but you are free to consider any decoration beneath and around the bowl to hide it.
- Make sure to buy a 100 cm diameter bowl and not less in order to provide enough space for your fish.
- Cover the bottom of the bowl completely with 1 inch of sand. Any sand will do: construction sand, river sand, etc.
- Cover the sand completely with fine gravel. You can mix the colors to your own design also add some pebbles.
- Use a hose to add tap water until full and while making sure not to use a strong jet not to have too much sand in suspension.
- Let it settle for 1 hour
- Fit the aquarium filter-pump horizontally since unlike an aquarium not much height is available to place it vertically.
- Plug it in and leave it for one week before putting any goldfish inside.
- It can contain up to 8 fish of the goldfish specie and any of the sub-species. Do not use it for any other tropical fish because tropical fish needs heating and more height while goldfish can accommodate water at room temperature whatever the room temperature and likes to swim horizontally. It will grow up to a reasonable size.
- Unlike aquariums and because it has no cover, you will need to add water twice a week to compensate for evaporation.
- The filter-pump will need cleaning once in a month.
Tips for the location and maintenance of the goldfish pond
When possible, place your goldfish pond near a window or any source of natural light to avoid using artificial lighting.
This saves energy, maintenance and provides natural daylight, a real luxury for fish living in captivity. |
Goldfish will grow to some 15 cm in these conditions.
It will be happy for sure to have such a swimming space and will develop a pet attitude towards its owner like for example rushing to beneath your hand when it feels it's mealtime! |
