Context and symptoms of a worn coolant switch (sensor)
- Coolant level light (alarm) goes on while driving.
- Coolant level light goes on even when coolant level is between the Min/Max marks when engine is cold.
- The sensor electrodes show advanced signs of abrasion (above image)

The coolant level sensor is fixed to the radiator tank where you refill your car with coolant.
It can have many shapes but modern electronic units look like a rectangular box.
Start by disconnecting the electrical connector (right).

Removal / refitting of the coolant level sensor
- You can only work on a cold engine
- Just tilt the coolant sensor by hand 90 degrees anticlockwise (left) to take it out (middle).
- Push the new level sensor in (right) then tilt it again 90 degrees clockwise to fix it and plug the electrical connector in.

Do not forget to mix and add coolant until the level is between the Min and Max marks.
Use a concentrate that you dilute with distilled water (not tap water) or a ready-to-use coolant.
