How do tree roots clogg a sewer line?
Tree roots could find their way into your sewer system, even PVC pipes like shown in the above picture or below video, taking advantage of the smallest crack or gap at any inspection pit or bad joint.
They do so in summer, their roots acting like a humidity / water detector and expanding quickly towards this source of water (your own sewer, thus toilet, kitchen, etc.), then developing inside the line up to completely blocking it.
Watch the below video that shows how a root penetrated the sewer PVC line from a bad junction made with silicone sealant insteaf of specific PVC cemented fitting.
The result is simply amazing, as the root invaded the pipe and used it as a mold to shape up like a cylinder and catch every single drop of water...the perfect clogg!

How to fix tree roots clogging of sewer?
Unfortunately, you can only cut the concerned portion of the sewer line, take out the roots and redo the pipe.
Make sure however to eliminate the cause behind the root penetration, i.e. to redo the piping job with professionnal cements / sealants / joint fittings.
