What rats like in a car
Rats like mainly two of the materials available in a car, enough to create serious damages and generate failures:
Concerning rubber, they like in particular newly installed auxiliary belts (serpentine belts).
They'd try their sharp teeth against the tensioned belt, starting a damage which will grow upon driving a matter of 100Km.
The torn part of the belt can damage or cut wires crossing to the engine generating even more damage.
You'll indeed here strange noises below your hood or have your battery light indicator glowing red on your dashboard,if the drive belt gets cut.

It can lead to a fault of the concerned equipment, like in this case a windshield wash pump, and the worst can occur if they eat a sensor's wire.
