How water purifier pitchers work
Water pitchers with a built-in filtering cartridge are very simple to use.
You just add tap water or water from a public fountain and then "enjoy" filtered potable water, upon filling your glass.
The filter consists of a replaceable cartridge of an easy access by simply removing the cover.

- The cover includes an indicator of the cartridge lifetime (left).
- The filter can be seen in the middle and right pictures
Water in the kettle passes through the filter from the unfiltered to the purified water compartments.
What manufacturers claim about the pitcher's features:
- BPA-free
- 10 cups of water capacity
- Great-tasting water since the filter reduces chlorine
- Sustainable choice, its saves 1,800 single-use plastic water bottles over a year of usage
- Fits everywhere in your refrigerator or on any shelf or table witout using much space
- Also reduces Mercury, Copper, Zinc and Cadmium
Our opinion about purifier pitchers, are they really worth it?
Keep in mind that these are designed to filter water that is already suitable for drinking as is, i.e. potable water.
They are efficient for enhancing taste, and reducing some of the heavy metals, but not as much as a counter top filter that works on pressure.
They are made of quality materials and sold at a reasonabe price for both pitcher and filter cartridge, especially you're saving on buying bottled water by simply using your tap water.
The filtered water won't match mineral bottled water, the latter being naturally filtered by rocks and rich with minerals, also allowing you to chose between several sources with different caracteristics including PH, sodium contents, etc.
We do recommend the pitcher for day-to-day use, especially for your coffee and cooking needs.
