  • This does not solve any internet connection interruption or slow performance but is worth giving it a try for being so simple. It assumes the DSL line is fine and the DSL led on the modem is lit continuously.
  • The below applies to a combined modem/router unit. You can still reboot each the same manner in case you have them separate.

Context of a slow internet connection | Router problems

Internet connection gets slow or inoperative despite your device being connected to your wi-fi or wired network and showing "internet access".

First, do no forget that every mobile phone, tablet, PC, etc. will connect to your network if wi-fi is enabled on the device. That makes quite a significant number of devices updating apps through your wi-fi. The more you connect devices and the higher are the distances between them and the router, and the higher should be the specifications of the latter.

How to reboot a router to reinstate internet speed (performance)

Turn your router off.
Take out the router power supply cord
Unplug the DSL line in case you have one
Wait 2 minutes before reconnecting the router cables and turning it back on.
If the problem is not solved, or if it is but requires many reboots a day or a week, and apart that this could be a modem or router failure or both, first make sure this is not happening when more devices are connected to internet especially if you just purchased more of them (like more phones or tablets for the kids) or if you allowed your visitors to connect.

If so, you need to upgrade your router to a model of higher specifications and larger internal memory.
