  • This pictorial covers the pollen filter used to clean the air entering your vehicle. It is located inside the engine compartment and does not clean recirculated air. Filters that do clean both recirculated and fresh air are located inside the vehicle and better called cabin filters.
The below works concern a Peugeot 208 but do apply to any car with a pollen filter.

Symptoms of a clogged pollen or cabin filter

  1. Car A/C is overall less efficient, yet the pulsed air from the A/C grilles on the dashboard is cold
  2. Excessive A/C fan noise inside the car
  3. Air getting out of the A/C diffusers is too cold
  4. Air flow is reduced, put your hand on an A/C diffuser then take it away slowly, you will notice the pulsed air reaches a shorter distance
  5. Uncomfortable ambience inside the car at night, with the A/C being too cold
  6. Uncomfortable ambience inside the car under the sun, with the A/C lacking efficiency

Location of the pollen (cabin) filter of the Peugeot 208 and 2008

1- Open the hood and find a removable grille beneath the windshield wipers, on the left side of your vehicle.
2- Unclip the AC filter plastic grille cover and take it out. It requires no tools, you just have to push on its holding legs.
3- This uncovers the AC cabin filter inside, which simply sits in a dedicated seat and which is made of one or two parts.

How to replace a pollen filter under the hood of a car

4- Take out the AC pollen filter (cabin filter) by hand.
5- Insert the new AC filter while taking care of the orientation (Up/Down).
6- Push well the new AC filter into its seat. That's it!
