Making sure of the correct EP6 timing tool kit
Prior to refitting your cylinder head and since it is easier to try your tool while the cylinder head is on your bench, make sure that:
|
Use a 27 combination spanner to rotate the camshafts in a manner that the round face of the ring shown in the left picture just ahead of the spanner points down and the flat face points up.
Fix your tool with the supplied bolts in a way to train on its installation later on with the cylinder head refitted to the engine.

Renewing all seals and gaskets of the cylinder head cover
Replace all seals prior to refitting the EP6 cylinder head since the access to the below parts is much easier with a dismantled cylinder head:
- Replace the seals of the intake manifold (left)
- Replace the seal of the thermostat housing (middle)
- Clean all connectors but in particular the ones of the injectors with an electronic cleaning spray (right)
Unpacking and refitting a new cylinder head gasket
Make sure the head gasket you purchased is not bent or distorted.
Just place the new head gasket over the cylinder block then the cylinder head over the head gasket.
Just place the new head gasket over the cylinder block then the cylinder head over the head gasket.
- Respect the tightening sequence, torque and then angles - MANDATORY. See below.
- Tighten bolts 4 to 11, then 1 to 3.
- The manufacturer's instructions including a pre-tightening torque, then one more tightening stage with a given angle are to be followed.
- Pre-tighten all bolts to the recommended sequence, then tighten them all again to the required angle, etc.
- DO NOT pre-tighten then continue tightening the same bolt. The sequence applies to each stage of the tightening process.
- DO NOT interrupt this operation for doing something else or for whatever reason as you could forget which bolt was tightened to which stage.
Tightening torques of the cylinder head of EP6 engine
- Tighten all bolts of the cylinder head as per sequence to 3mKg
- Tighten all bolts of the cylinder head as per sequence by 90 degrees
- Tighten again all bolts of the cylinder head by 90 degrees and always as per sequence
