Mazda 2 / Demio spark plugs replacement pictorial
Start by removing the air filter, click here to visit our specific page.
Remove the 3 bolts that hold the air box / air filter assembly.
One of them is on the back side but can be easily accessed and removed.

Unclip the air inlet duct and take out the air box assembly as shown in the picture to the right.

Unscrew the collar that holds the air hose which connects to the air filter cover housing (left) and tilt the air filter cover housing up, then hold it in place with a large screwdriver (right).
You can now see the 4 coils.
Remove the bolt that holds the COP then gently pull up and take out the COP (middle).
Use a 16 mm socket to unscrew the spark plug.

You can then use a magnet pick-up tool to take out the spark plug.
Inspect each spark plug for each cylinder separately. The electrodes should look light brown as shown in the picture to the right.
Check the gap between electrodes. It should be between 1 to 1.1 mm.
If your spark plugs have more than 45,000 km, replace them.
Tighten to 2.5 mKg (18 ft-lb) when refitting.
