How to check and maintain the well pressure tank of a water pump

  • Whatever its size, a pressure tank is made of a steel shell that contains a rubber membrane (bowel) to be inflated with air.
  • Once inflated, it acts as a shock absorber to avoid brutal water movements and associated hammer effects.
  • Unscrew the valve cap and fit in a tire pressure gauge.
  • You should read 2 bars or whatever recommended on the manufacturer's plate of the vessel.
Use a bicycle pump to inflate the bowel and adjust the tank's pressure.
​Check the pressure setting once a year at least.
