This dish is part of the famous Lebanese Meze (Meza, Mezza, Mezze) |
What is Tabbouleh and is it healthy?
Tabbouleh is a Lebanese traditional salad mainly consisting of parsley and not containing any non-vegetable ingredient. It combines parsley with onions, tomatoes, and has an olive oil and lemon dressing, making it a top choice if you're looking for real healthy food, especially that the bulgur (borghol, borghoul), made of wheat, is optional and can be skipped out of the recipe without altering its great taste. It is part of the famous Lebanese starters called Mezze and the also famous Mediterranean diet!
How to make the perfect Tabbouleh
Cut the onion in dices and put it in the olive oil.
Do the same with the tomatoes which should be cut in dices for preparing the tabbouleh (tabboulé)
Cut the parsley stems as shown in the left picture then finely chop the parsley leaves.
Soak the bulgur (borghol) into water and wait until it increases size before combining all prepared tabbouleh ingredients into a bowl and in layers as shown in the right picture. Add the juice of one lemon, salt, pepper (black pepper) and mix gently your tabbouleh (tabouli).
Can you keep Tabbouleh in the fridge and for how long?
The short and immediate answer is yes sure!
Not only Tabbouleh can be kept in the fridge for 48 hours and up to 72 hours, some prefer to taste it "the next day", when parsley leaves become softer and have soaked in the olive oil dressing.
It's a magical salad which taste is already one of the greatest when fresh, and improves when kept in the fridge for the next day or two!
