Compressing the MacPherson strut and separating the triangle arm
Lift your vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
Loosen the nut of the triangle arm ball joint without taking it out.
Loosen the nut of the triangle arm ball joint without taking it out.
- Use your hydraulic jack to pre-compress the MacPherson suspension strut by lifting it on the disc brake.
- Make sure to insert a wooden pad between the jack and the brake disc not to damage the brake disc edge.
- Fit the spring compression tools and continue compressing the spring until freeing it from its top and bottom seats.
- Make sure to alternate the tightening on both spring compressors.
- Block the ball joint bolt with a Torx or Allen key depending on its head and continue unscrewing the ball joint fixing nut.
- Now put the hydraulic jack beneath the ball joint bolt and lift the wheel hub in a manner that the ball joint bolt becomes perpendicular to the triangle arm.
- Use now a ball joint dismantling tool to push down the triangle arm and separate it from the wheel hub.
- Make sure to collect the protector like the one available on this Peugeot 5008 MPV.

Replacing the front suspension ball joint (triangle ball joint)
- Fit a combination wrench of the adequate size (41 in this case) the the ball joint.
- Do not attempt to slacken the ball joint by pushing on the wrench, you can hurt yourself and never succeed in doing so.
- Use a 1.5 or 2 Kg hammer instead and hit on the wrench one or two times.
- Continue unscrewing the ball joint by hand.
- Fit a new ball joint and tighten using all your possible force.
- The wheel hub of a Peugeot 5008 is too heavy to be lifted by hand to refit the ball joint bolt to the triangle which is not the case on smaller and lighter vehicles.
- Use again the hydraulic jack to lift the wheel hub on the brake disc and a large C-clamp to push the wheel hub inside until you are able to insert the ball joint in its seat. This requires some patience...
- Reverse above steps.
- Perform a wheel alignment / geometry adjustment
