NOTE: this pictorial is part 2 and last of our tutorial showing how to dismantle and remove the powertrain of the Peugeot 208, click on the below button if you missed part 1:
Removing the cross bar and lower engine mount on the 208
Slacken the bolts of the cross bar and the ones of the rear engine link (gearbox mount) of the Peugeot 208 and take them out.
Removing the driveshafts (drive shafts) of the Peugeot 208 1.2 VTi
Click on the below button for the details of the drive shafts removal:
Detaching the exhaust on the Peugeot 208 1.2 VTi
The catalytic converter had already been dismantled when removing the cylinder head of the PSA EB2 engine.
It is still needed to detach the exhaust pipe at the front support for making room to extract the engine and gearbox.
Unscrew the two nuts that hold the exhaust and let it lay down on the floor.

Taking out the powertrain (engine and gearbox) on the Peugeot 208
Prepare to remove the last engine mount, the one to the gearbox side.
- Place an additional hydraulic jack beneath the gearbox.
- Attach all loose harnesses, tubes, wires to a wooden plank as shown in the middle picture. This is important in order to make sure no wire or tube would still be holding to the engine or gearbox so it doesn't get damaged when lowering the powertrain.
- Add two more wood planks on the engine compartment of the Peugeot 208 (right picture) and use ropes to attach the engine block and gearbox to them.
- Make sure the wood planks do not touch the windscreen of the Peugeot 208, also that they are wide enough (10cm or more) to avoid damaging the rubber seal beneath the hood.
Remove the bolts of the last engine mount (gearbox mount) of the Peugeot 208 and start lowering the powertrain by alternating your actions on the jacks and the ropes in a manner to bring it down to the floor level little by little.
Take out the oil level gauge tube to facilitate the extraction of the power train from beneath the vehicle.
This will reduce the overall height and width of the engine / gearbox assembly.
This will reduce the overall height and width of the engine / gearbox assembly.
Once on the floor, one operator is enough to handle the Peugeot 1.2 VTi engine (EB2) to push it onto a steel sheet then onto the engine trolley. Do not attempt to lift the engine and gearbox assembly, simply let them slide on the steel sheet then the wooden planks of the trolley by pulling the powertrain towards you and not pushing it (it's easier to pull than push).
Once on a trolley, the power train of the Peugeot 208 1.2 VTi can be rolled to the workshop for carrying out the required works.
