Car suspension, links, engine mounts and steering rack maintenance
Working safely beneath a car
Never rely on a hydraulic jack to work beneath a lifted vehicle. Hydraulic jacks are lifting devices only, a vehicle should be properly secured on jack stands with more than one stand used on each side. Click on the below link or picture for more.
Detailed pictorials for car suspension repair shown on MacPherson struts system and twist-beam (torsion beam) rear suspension. The below works occurred on a Peugeot 5008 7-seater MPV. Works on any other vehicle are much similar or identical.
Control arm bushes degrade with time as a slow and normal wear. This is not a defect or a failure. Our pictorial shows how the rubber bushes (bushings) tear apart, get dry, and become too soft to hold the lower suspension arm in place
How to replace engine and gearbox mounts (powertrain supports)
Usually, people replace engine mounts when hearing a knocking noise but these devices also control and reduce the engine vibrations. Do not hesitate to replace the mounts in case of doubt, as it will also reduce the vibrations and bring back your car to a smooth ride.
